Hugging and Chalking

This blog is about obesity and the inanity/insanity it spawns, the encroaching lawsuits and growing diet industry. Obesity is a matter of genes and personal responsibility. You can have an endocrine problem, or you can have a balance problem (too many calories and too little exercise). It’s not where you eat, but how much you eat; it’s not McDonald’s fault, or Mama’s fault, or Washington’s fault if your body is too fat or too thin. Rosabelle.

New Surgeon General to focus on obesity

From Medscape.com
"WASHINGTON (Reuters) May 25 - President George W. Bush announced on Thursday that he had picked Kentucky physician James Holsinger to become the top U.S. health educator and said he would focus on reducing childhood obesity.

Holsinger's appointment as surgeon general requires Senate approval. He would replace Richard Carmona, who stepped down last year.

"Dr. Holsinger will particularly focus his efforts on educating parents and children about childhood obesity, a serious epidemic that decreases quality of life and burdens our healthcare system," Bush said in a statement.

Holsinger, 68, headed up Kentucky's health system and is the former chancellor of the University of Kentucky's medical center. He is also a retired Army Reserve major general."

This is pure politcalism at it finest. Pick a topic that sings to everyone's heart, tout it in the press, and let it die for lack of attention. Bleck!
