Hugging and Chalking

This blog is about obesity and the inanity/insanity it spawns, the encroaching lawsuits and growing diet industry. Obesity is a matter of genes and personal responsibility. You can have an endocrine problem, or you can have a balance problem (too many calories and too little exercise). It’s not where you eat, but how much you eat; it’s not McDonald’s fault, or Mama’s fault, or Washington’s fault if your body is too fat or too thin. Rosabelle.

Yogurt may help

"An isocaloric diet that incorporates yogurt promotes greater weight loss, according to the results of a 12-week trial published in the April issue of the International Journal of Obesity. The investigators speculate that the increased amount of calcium (Ca) and suppression of calcitriol make this diet more effective." Story at Medscape.

Rural kids fatter than city

Career advice from an expert

Hugh Hewitt is a successful former government official (Reagan years), a radio talk show host, and an author. He's written a little career guide for Christians called "In, but not of." Even if you aren't a Christian, he's got some solid suggestions, like don't bad mouth your former boss, be loyal, practice gratitude, always ask questions, nothing good happens at night that will help your career, no tattoos and so forth. But I was really surprised to see a chapter called "Your shape will shape your success."

"Change the way you look if the way you look is an obstacle. This isn't a diet and exercise book, and truth be told, you don't need one. Exercise more. Eat less. Walk, then run, every day. Every day. It is a lifesaving and career-enhancing habit of the highest order." p. 185
